Freefighters MMA Move Home

For 2010, Freefighters MMA have now got the home they deserve! Over 2000 sq ft of training area with loads of mat space, a half octagon, punch bags, weights, running machine, grapple dummy, relaxation area, protein bar, changing room etc. at the new bespoke training venue. Although O.M.A.C. (Oswestry Martial Arts Centre) is the home of Freefighters, there will also be various other martial arts classes on offer. There are now three regular MMA nights and additional training sessions when time allows. All for only £39 a month!

Combat Open Trials - Hereford - Sun 7th February 2010

Freefighters MMA will be taking a team to Hereford for the first leg of the 2010 season of the Combat amateur MMA league. Get your entry forms in now before it sells out! This is a fantastic starting place for future UFC stars to gain some experience and anyone else just to have some fun.

November Reign - Kyusinkai MMA event Telford 7/11/09

Morgan Nunns took a very short notice fight and beat Trojan Freefighters up and comer Tom Faizy by unanimous decision after 2 rounds in this semipro bout. Well done to the Spartan team who also did well at the event.

This was a much better event compared to our last experience. Now in a cage as opposed to a ring and with professional level refereeing by the one and only Ian 'The Machine' Freeman. This is establishing itself as a quality local event.

Charity Grappling Event - Oswestry - Sunday 6th December

After last years great event, Geoff Moore is organising this grappling contest again raising money this time for Hope House. Entry forms will be available shortly and more details will follow. It will take place at the Freefighters training place of The Venue, Burma Road, Park Hall, Oswestry.

Update

No freefighters are competing now at the below Wrexham event. This is what happens with a matchmaker who thinks its a good idea to leave it all to the last minute. Some guys from Elite still fighting though so go show some support.

Dragon Fighting Championship - Wrexham - Sunday 8th November 2009

AMMA - Walsall - Sat 26th September 2009

Oswestry Freefighters next champ in the making Pete Salisbury is looking for his second quick MMA victory at Walsall football stadium on Saturday 26th September on Marc Goddard's AMMA event.

Please come along and cheer him on, tickets are £20 and there will probably be a minibus going from Wrexham & Oswestry. Numbers are limited so let me know asap if you're going!

RESULT: Despite a fine display, Pete succumbed to fatigue and tapped to a shoulder choke towards the end of round two. His opponent was changed at the last moment to Phil Faulkner who used his good ground skills to secure the victory. Well done to both for putting on a great fight.

Open Trials Hereford - 16th August 2009

Two of the newest members of Oswestry Freefighters took part in the Combat Open Trials 2009: 3rd Leg. It was both Paul Samuel’s and James Sherwin’s first competition and they did Freefighters proud.
Paul was fighting at 84kg and he earned two hard-fought draws against tough competition. Attempting and escaping from a number of submissions, it was a great payoff to Paul’s MMA training in Shropshire.
James (77kg), after only 3 months’ training at Oswestry Freefighters, came away with one loss and one win. Not many people can bounce back after a loss but later in the day, James’s 2nd fight came around and he won via triangle submission after 1 minute. A fantastic result for James.
A big ‘well done’ to both competitors and it’s good to see Oswestry Freefighters being regularly represented at these prestigious UK tournaments.

Also racking up league points were Freefighter regulars Geoff Moore and Lee Youens. Keep up the good work keeping Shropshire on the MMA map!

'JUDGEMENT NIGHT Swansea - 20th June 2009

Shropshire Star press release:

'Morgan Nunns, head coach of Oswestry Freefighters, racked up another win on Saturday July 20th’s MMA evening, ‘Judgement Night’. Held at The Four Seasons Club in Swansea, Morgan was facing tough local favourite Danny Roberts – the headlining bout – and he won via Rear Naked Choke in Round 2.

The fight was pro rules MMA at Featherweight and comes just two months after Morgan’s last competition, which he won after 35 seconds, also via Rear Naked Choke. With a strong background at both amateur and semi pro level, Morgan’s professional record now stands at 3 wins and 1 loss.'

DRAGON FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS - 28th June 2009

Several local fighters are competing at this MMA event taking place in Liquid Nightclub, Wrexham. There are also several Muay Thai bouts. From Wrexham top wrestler Ashley Wilson returns to pro MMA with what I've no doubt will be a devastating beating for his opponent! Elite MMA's chief coach Richard Cosgrove will also be taking on an unlucky fighter from Belfast. Morgan Nunns will be fighting for the first time at 66Kg if a suitable opponent is found in time! GRAPPLE & STRIKE FIGHT NIGHT - MAY 16th 2009

A fantastic night and a big well done to the Oswestry Freefighters lads making their MMA debuts in style!

Tom Steadman took on the much larger and experienced Lee Scriven over two aggressive rounds. Scriven attacked with strong punches and takedowns using his strength to great effect. Steadman used his skillful grappling game to tie Scriven up and attack from his back with subs. Steadman worked his ground game for all of the first round keeping relaxed and busy. At the start of the second, Scriven scored a powerful takedown following straight up with a tight kimura to get the win.

Pete Salisbury also made his MMA debut against the experienced Ritchie Jones who had 10 wins under his belt. Salisbury came out strong giving Jones no time to use his reach advantage. After eating 4 or 5 powerful fists, Jones went for the takedown ending up in Salisbury's guard. At this point the ref stepped in seeing the large cut that had opened up on Jones' left eye. The doctor stopped the bout giving Salisbury the TKO victory in less than a minute!!

A very well done to both Tom and Pete for making us all proud at Oswestry Freefighters and hopefully we'll see you both fight again soon!

Best wishes to Ritchie Jones and may he have a speedy recovery. Also a big well done to the lads from Oswestry Elite MMA who also put on some good fights that night.

AMMA Walsall 25th April 2009

Morgan made his return to pro rules fighting with a 35 second win over Steve 'Widge' Milward in the first round by Rear Naked Choke.

TRAINING AS USUAL EASTER SUNDAY

Training is as normal: 7pm at the venue, so don't overdo the chocolate eggs! Tickets are still available for April 25th.

There are several MMA events coming up over the next few months. See the Facebook bulletin board for the latest info. Morgan has accepted a pro rules fight in Walsall (Birmingham) on 25th April 2009 on the A.M.M.A. event run by Marc Goddard. Morgan will be facing Steven Milward (4W-2L), an explosive young lightweight with a slick submission game.
